Description

Starting originally as a remake I never finished, I wanted to recreate an old fanmade trailer in my own style while using newly-acquired knowledge of Blender. This was a challenge to utilize a new engine and adapt my regular workflow to a new workflow. I'm very proud and happy with the final result, and allowed me to learn more. It also showed me I actually really like working with Blender.

I could use the original animation as reference in compositions, pacing and type of shots. I did this as purely reference as well as referencing the original creator. The original audio however is copyrighted due to the use of the song. This forced me to change and compose my own trailer audio retaining the original tune/mood. Using a free cover, audio sfx and more, I recreated that first and later adapted it into the animation process.

Behind-the-scenes

The overall production of this took a long while; the original audio was directly taken from a trailer including a copyrighted song. I wanted to avoid that, so I reconstructed the entire audio with copyright-free material to avoid claims.

I took inspiration from the original as well as using some creativity myself to create new scenes. Although I did use existing fanmade models for the characters and environment, everything else surrounding it was developed custom for this project; physics, lighting, animations, etc.
After planning the scenes and setting up the tools, the animation took quite a long time, afterwards compositing the individual scenes into a coherent sequence. I was fortunate that the audio track itself acted as a guide to co-ordinate what would happen at what time.
